What to Expect During the Procedure
The area is gently cleaned and prepped
Local anesthesia is applied using a MadaJet® spray – (no needle is used)
A small, ¼-inch opening is made in the scrotum (no scalpel required)
The vas deferens on each side is accessed through this opening
The vas deferens is sealed and then divided.
One end of each tube is tucked into surrounding tissue and secured with a tiny titanium clip or dissolvable suture
The vas deferens are returned to their natural position
No external stitches are needed – the opening typically closes within a day
Aftercare and Recovery
Recovery is typically quick and straightforward. Most men return to light activity within 1–2 days. Here’s what you can expect:
Wear snug underwear or an athletic supporter for the first week
You can ice the area for (15 min of icing every hour) for the first few hours if desired, but you don’t have to.
Avoid strenuous activity, lifting, or sex for about 5–7 days
Mild soreness or swelling is common and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief (acetaminophen and ibuprofen)
You’ll receive detailed post-procedure instructions to follow at home.
Follow-Up: Semen Test for Confirmation
To confirm the success of the vasectomy, you’ll need to complete a semen analysis 12 weeks after the procedure. We use a convenient mail-in testing system through an independent lab (PVSA.org). Detailed instructions will be provided after appointment.:

About 1 in 20 men need to repeat the sample, typically this is done after waiting at least 4-6 additional weeks, if this is the case you will be contacted by our office to answer any questions
